Job Title: Sexual Health Educator
Status: Exempt; full-time employee
Salary: $45,000 Annually
Essential Functions:
- Facilitate evidence-based sexuality and youth development curriculum with fidelity at RCSD, charter schools, City Recreation sites, sports teams, summer youth programs etc. Teach life skills, including healthy relationships, communication, goal setting, healthy sexuality, and media literacy. Follow the policies of each site.
- Work cooperatively with program sites and collaborating organizations. Communicate with staff regularly and extensively
- Promote the program to youth-serving organizations and obtain opportunities to work with youth at a variety of sites.
- Link with and support youth to learn about and use youth health and community resources.
- Keep records, including those required by funding agency: monthly calendar, initial registration forms, parent permission forms, youth needs assessment forms, attendance, curriculum fidelity forms, youth feedback forms, etc. Administer evaluation measurement tools.
- Participate on Project Advisory Board and/or related community councils and work teams.
- Other duties and tasks as assigned and needed by the supervisor.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
The Health Educator must demonstrate competencies in:
- Group facilitation skills
- Youth leadership development
- Rapport with youth and ability to engage youth populations
Also required:
- Ability to work independently while maintaining accountability to team members, sites, and supervisor
- Strong organizational skills
- Flexibility and problem-solving skills
- Creativity
- Oral and written communication skills
- Familiarity with health, education, human service systems, cultural resources, etc.
- Commitment to comprehensive sexuality education for youth
Deliver evidence-based CAPP services and programming as follows:
i. Recruit and enroll a minimum of 250 youth in evidence-based programming through Making Proud Choices (MPC) and Be Proud Be Responsible (BPBR)curricula.
ii. Provide evidence-based BPBR or MPC curriculum to youth in grades 7-12 in schools or community agencies. The workshop delivers comprehensive, evidence-based, age-appropriate, and medically accurate sexuality education to youth in person or in a virtual platform.
iii. Provide evidence-based BPBR or MPC curriculum to youth ages 13-18 to community agencies in July and August.
iv. Establish schedule and partnerships for condom distribution (neighborhood food centers, R-centers, library, food pantries, barber & beauty salons, etc.)
v Refer youth to family planning, reproductive health, and other services necessary.
vi. Provide all program and financial reports deemed necessary in a timely manner.
Required: Valid NYS driver’s license required and reliable access to a vehicle.
Extensive staff development and training will be provided.
This is a grant-funded position.
Hours: Full-time position, 37.5 hours per week. Some early evenings and weekends will be required.
