POSITION: Chemical Dependency Counselor (Spanish Speaking)
REQUIREMENTS: A Bachelor or Master’s degree in psychology, social work, counseling, or a closely related field, or qualification as a Qualified Health Professional (CASAC, RN, LCSW) is REQUIRED prior to 1st Year Anniversary. At least one year’s experience in an alcohol or drug treatment setting is preferred. Candidate must demonstrate a commitment to working as part of a multi-cultural staff to provide culturally appropriate services to a widely diverse client population. Must be familiar with the most current Diagnostic & Statistical Manual (DSM). Must have valid NYS driver’s license. Bilingual/Bicultural a must.
REPORTS TO: Program Director
DUTIES: This position is responsible for coordinating and providing educational and treatment programs for clients diagnosed with a substance use disorder:
- Provides initial and ongoing assessment for clients in order to determine diagnosis and appropriate level of care
- Provide educational presentations to clients on various aspects of chemical abuse/ addiction
- Provide individual and group therapy
- Coordinate client primary care with that of any significant others in family treatment
- Maintain client medical records in compliance with Agency and NYS OASAS standards
- Make appropriate referrals and provide follow-up
- Prepares discharge summaries and other required documentation on a timely manner
- Must abide by and comply with all aspects of Baden Street Settlement’s Compliance Program
- Perform other tasks as assigned
- Participates as a contributing member of an interdisciplinary team in coordination and delivery of client care
- Is compliant with regulations governing HIV: NYS Public Health Law, NYS OASAS Regulations, 42 CRF, and other client confidentiality requirements
- Maintain coordination with other service providers on a local, county and state level
